Introduction

How often should I descale?

Over time, limescale can build up inside your espresso machine, affecting performance and taste.
Regular descaling helps keep your machine working efficiently and extends its lifespan. It is recommended to descale your machine every 6-8 weeks, or more if you live in a hard water area.

Step 1

Prepare the machine

Before you begin, make sure the espresso machine is switched off, unplugged and has cooled down fully.

Step 2

Fill the water tank

Remove the water tank and fill it with cold water up to the maximum fill mark.

Step 3

Add the descaling solution

Add a commercial descaling agent, following the manufacturer's instructions. The use of vinegar is not recommended for this machine.

Step 4

Switch on and position cup

Place the water tank back into the espresso machine. Position an empty cup under the coffee outlet (no coffee is needed for this process).

Step 5

Run the descaling cycle

Switch the espresso machine on and press the brew button.. Allow the solution to run through the machine. Repeat this process until approximately three cups have been filled.

Step 6

Let the solution sit inside for 15 min

After running the water through the coffee outlet, press the steam button. Then switch off the espresso machine and allow the remaining solution inside to sit for approximately fifteen minutes.

Step 7

Rinse the coffee machine

Once 15 minutes has passed, empty the cups and refill the water tank with clean, fresh water.

Run the espresso machine at least twice more, pouring the water away after it cools.

Step 8

Ensure all residue is gone

If there are any traces of descaling solution remaining, continue running clean water through the machine until it runs completely clear.

Step 9

Ready to use

Your espresso machine is now descaled, clean, and ready to use. Regular maintenance like this helps ensure great-tasting coffee, every time.
