Accessibility Statement
At Salter, we understand and recognise the importance of providing a website that everyone can use with ease. Our goal is to provide an inclusive experience for all visitors, including individuals with visual, motor, and cognitive disabilities.
To achieve this, we have implemented features designed to integrate effectively with screen readers, support keyboard-only navigation and provide compatibility with text-only browsers. These measures help make our content clear, accessible and understandable, so every user has equal access to the information and services we provide.
Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Salter is Partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, which is the standard referenced in EN 301 549, the European harmonised accessibility requirements for websites and apps under the European Accessibility Act.
Back to top ↑Self Assessment Process
We perform regular audits of key areas of our websites using Google Lighthouse, WAVE by webAIM, and Silktide Inspector.
User Experience Testing: We also use these tools to evaluate the user experience when using assistive technologies such as clicker input devices, keyboard navigation, and screen readers.
Back to top ↑Known Limitations
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations and their current status.
| Area | Description | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Product listings | Image alt text is either missing or inaccurate. Issues with embedded text in images. | Fix in progress |
| Site wide | Some areas of the site have issues with typography such as insufficient colour contrast and size. | Investigating |
| Site wide | Some functionality of the site is not accessible using only a keyboard – for example, add to cart button. | Investigating |
| Site wide | There are some mismatched ARIA attributes. | Investigating |
| Search tool | Issues with some list schema / aria labels. | Unresolvable (Outside scope) |
| Guarantee registration | Some labels are not correctly connected with their corresponding form fields – for example, guarantee registration form. | Known issue |
Some known limitations are currently unresolvable. They fall into two categories:
- Disproportionate burden - when fixing an accessibility issue would require resources or effort that are unreasonable compared to the benefit of users, given the organisations size and capacity
- Outside scope - when an accessibility limitation is caused by a third-party component or service that are not under the organisation's direct control.
